How My Cutters Work on Different Clay Thickness — Atlas 150 Guide

I've been working with polymer clay for over 11 years. When I design my cutters, I think about how they'll perform on different polymer clay thicknesses. I model the imprint height carefully so that the impression is visible whether you prefer thinner or thicker clay slabs.

I rolled polymer clay on different Atlas 150 settings (from 0 to 5) and pressed the same cutter on each slab.

Here's what I discovered

Setting 0 gives a deep, bold impression — perfect for chunky statement earrings.

Settings 1 and 2 are my personal favorite for everyday earrings. The imprint is clean and the clay is lightweight and comfortable to wear.

Setting 3 works well for thin, delicate earrings. The impression is visible and clean.

Setting 4 — the imprint is still visible but starts to fade. Use with care.

Setting 5 — the slab is too thin. The imprint is no longer visible at this setting.

My recommendation

For most earring styles, I recommend settings 1 and 2. This gives you a clear imprint and lightweight result that's comfortable to wear all day.
